Thank you. I've ben watching videos trying to figure out how to alter my pants and this has been the most helpful and easy to follow.
Thanks so much for sharing the wealth of knowledge your experience has given you. I recently started learning a bit about tailoring when I began working for a Jos A. Bank location. I had only been there a few weeks when we lost our tailor on short notice. I took it upon myself to learn how to do some of the alterations to help out the store, and now think I might have received somewhat of a "battlefield promotion," so to speak. I will absorb all this type of mastery and try to put it all to good use!
What if we need basic or intermediate tailoring advice, because our goals aren't so lofty? I need to hem sweatpants. If possible, I would just cut them, if the cut won't slowly fray. I think getting professional tailoring is good if you have a pair of dress pants or the bottoms from a suit, but with sweatpants, most people aren't as picky.
How long should a mens tie be
I trained as a seamstress in my teens and learnt my skill from a hard task mistress. Over the years I have made everything from wedding dresses to tailored coats and suits. I always wanted to sew from being a little girl and just love my clothes and the way I love to look although I am 77 years old and love to dress.
How do you avoid the pucker while tapering the pants. How can I foresee this in the act of tapering ?
I never thought to adjust the taper to accommodate the turn up. This makes so much sense. Thank you!
Thank you!
Jim, I so appreciate your expertise and style. Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! I "sew" but all my learning has been by trial and error. How nice to learn how to alter my slacks to fit my new skinner self.
Now that’s some good info to know! Thank you!
Hi Jim, I absolutely love your videos as I am a new sewer and like to learn things properly! We don't see that anymore and unfortunately the sewing courses nowadays are rubbish or they are extremely expensive if you try to enrol in something good. It is a real shame! do you have m ore recent videos? C
Thank you for doing this! Wish you were in California.
Disagree. Measurement from inner leg doesn’t change, whether low or high on waist.
Love it! Thank you Gentleman Jim:):)
Hello I wish ,I could meet you in person so you could teach me how to sew...... I'm a hands on person 😍🙏💜
Lovely gentleman and great teaching 💯
,
You truly are a Gentleman and a Scholar. I have hemed many of his pants. But recently my husband bought a suit and the Taylor hand hemmed his pants to his size. When I examend his workmsnship, I was very surprised and impressed. It was the first time I had seen this. He opened the side seams so it would not pucker at the bottom. And not only this, he had folded the same amount of cloth inside and also hand sewed the inner rim of the pant legs. I was truly impressed. I have seen other taylors hem suit pants rather poorly. You have given the best and most profesional advise. When a man walks with a well sewn and well taylored suit, it is just flawless.
Dallas Texas: Deloris Ellis, How do I get in a Tailoring & Dressmaking apprentice?
glad i finally caught up with you on youtube. thanks for mentioning me.
Out of all the videos I've watched on turn up cuffs you are the ONLY instructor that addressed how to avoid the puckers! ❤ Thank You!
From the age of 10 sewing was my passion, left school and started work as a sewing machinest, my life was sewing, I had to create, I had 1 break for 10yrs because of a hic cup in my life, then my daughter asked me to shorten her bridesmaids dresses, I thought my goodness I have,nt sewn for 10yrs, but the moment I got on my sewing machine it was like coming home, this was me, and once I started I couldn't stop, I now have my own business doing alterations, every day I feel like I,m in heaven on earth, and the rewards are the biggest gift ever, that is inspiration.. xxx😊
Thank you so much. I’m a brand new sewist. One of the reasons I became interested in sewing and creating better fitting clothes is because I am shorter than most women but taller than what is considered “petite”. As a result, nearly every pair of pants I buy need a hem. Sadly I have cut so many pairs of pants incorrectly and had to throw them out or cut them all the way down to shorts (if they were jeans to start). I love flare jeans and I have several pair of nice dress pants and flare jeans, that I now feel confident that I will be able to hem properly. Again, thank you so much and Bravo YOU ROCK! 😁👏💃
A real Gentleman, thanks for the exceptionally video!
Easy breezy, thank you Sir 😁
Thanks Gentleman Jim, always felt that the inseam measurement was the important one but your explanation and expertise re-educated me. Will do it your way from now on. Thank you sir!
OMG! A brotha from my dreams. I’m not being forward. I’m just so proud to see a distinguished black gentleman with your interests. And yes I’m going to try this on a ladies jacket I’m working on now. God bless you Sir❤️🙏
Yes. A teacher who is a kind soul is always a welcome tone.
Would love a tutorial on how to raise an arm scythe (I love to buy second-hand designer suits from the 1990s...) So, I just bought an "old" (but beautiful) Armani pant suit... Shoulder width is ok...but the bottom of the arm scythe is SO LOW...so that when I raise my arms the entire jacket goes up. I want to shorten hem of jacket (which is 7" below my wrists at least 3-4 inches, which would give me enough fabric to add fabric to the under arm. (I know this sounds like a kind of flaky thing to do--and it will be difficult because wool/cashmere fabric is gray pinstriped...) I don't want to mess around w/shoulder seam...or even side seams (as they fit well...) Any suggestions? I think an underarm gusset would work IF I can align the pinstripes... I'm crazy--right? ( am going to have to completely take apart the pants and cut new pattern pieces. They are too big in every way. At least I have enough fabric.
Very helpful. Thank you
For what it’s worth, I can’t thank you enough for this tutorial. I absolutely 100% saved me tonight trying to alter a clients jacket. I am self taught and I had no idea how to take in the blade of a jacket and not flatten out the sleeve across the bicep. You are an angel. Thank you a million times over ❤
Thank you Jim❤
Extremely helpful, thank you for sharing this!
Great information. I’m so glad I found this video.
How do you have so much time to talk about nothing at all?
No Lies Detected...... thank you....
Thank you. I'm a wedding seamstress and this was very helpful.
The “Felling Stitch”. The best! Thank you Mr. Jim!
This got me wet for no reason
R u n Illinois or Indiana
This is so helpful. I must hem all my pants.
I always wondered why my pant legs looked funny at the bottom after it turned them up. Thanks for explaining it!
👍🏼
Great info
Thank you Gentleman Jim, that was very helpful! I see I'm going to have to get one of those real long metal rulers like you have, that looks very useful. I hope you and yours are well and thanks again for the great tips, take care
Absolutely! I’m always taking in the shoulders! I may be big, but I’m no football player. It’s a big part of why I sew.
Excellent advise
Thank you Gentleman Jim. You are a Master!!❤
Love your tie tutorials, but my husband would look amazing in a vest like you wear is there a tutorial for this.
